2013

Well girls, I hope you all had a fabulous Christmas! And of course, best wishes for the new year. I was quite awful in the last few months and completely neglected my poor blog - But hopefully this will be the start of my blogging comeback. What better way to start than by a little post on my resolutions?

1. Keep up blogging.
I love writing posts and reading a variety of beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogs. I've always taken quite a casual approach to my blog, but after losing a few cameras/ camera chargers/ and having a broken laptop for most of the summer, I lost my rhythm and couldn't seem to finish or publish any posts. This will be rectified!

2. Be healthier.
This encompasses a wide range of things - Like most people, I'd like to keep my weight and figure at a reasonable level. But, I want to do it safely, for the long term. I know the 'ideal weight' for my height, and while I don't weigh myself regularly, I know that I hover around the one figure which I'd prefer to be lower. But in general, I'd like to tone my stomach up to its old level. This means taking advantage of the free college gym and cutting down on junk but NOT getting obsessed.

3. Sort my life out.
Basically, I am not fully satisfied with college or things in general. I don't really know what to do in the future, and have spent my holidays thinking about work and college. Quite frankly, I would rather work full-time than sit in college, but I feel as if a degree will be worth it, particularly after staying this long. This year will see me moving to Germany for a year, so hopfully some motivation hits me and I figure out exactly what I want, even for the short term.

So, they are my major plans for 2013. I have a few smaller goals, which I might pop up in a later post - I'm hoping to include them in a '21 before 21' series!

I hope everyone has a fabulous NYE/Day and may it be the start of lots of good thing to come!

Lancome Hypnose Drama in 01 Black

Hello!

Again, I have no laptop, so posting has been rather non-existent. However hopefully my laptop will be back to me within a fortnight, so until then, I'll just borrow one sporadically.

Today I'm bringing you one of my favourite products - mascara. I have teeny eyes, albino eyelashes and feel naked without eye make-up, especially when I'm wearing contacts. I have a major collection, but Lancome Hypnose Drama is one of my favourites.

The curved brush & packaging.

Lancome promise 'Instant full-body lash volume. Exceptional immediate volume.' & declare that this is 'A must have mascara for a sensual, incredible and extreme volume look.' Well, honestly, I agree. While it does lengthen, volume is this mascara's forte, and it does it well. The extreme black colour adds to this illusion, but with just a quick zig-zag in the roots of your eyelashes, they will already look bigger and bolder.

If you're in a rush, a few quick strokes will define your lashes and brighten up your eyes considerably - One coat is all that's needed. But, two coats can be built up for more volume, without clumping. However, as a warning, I do find that the brush is overloaded sometimes, which leads to a bit of a gloopy mess, but as long as you check the brush before application, you shouldn't have any problems. The brush iteslf is curved, so it fits into your lashes comfortably.

Bare lashes.
One coat.
Two coats.

Now, the bad news. The price. Of course, Lancome is a higher end brand, so you could probably pick up three high-street mascaras for Hypnose Drama's price tag of E25.92 in Debenhams. I have lots of cheaper mascaras that deliver similar results to this - But for a bit of luxury, the sleek black packaging with minimal gold writing is sophisticated and classic. I won't call this a must-have product but for girls whom love their mascaras, I don't think you'd regret having this in your collection!

Have you tried this mascara? What did you think?

Winner of Catrice Million Styles Topcoats

Hello girls!

So sorry for lack of blogging & announcement of my give-away winners - Anyone following me on Twitter will know that I have faced major problems with my laptop but I managed to borrow one to calculate the winners & let you guys know!
As before, I used Random.org to generate the winners from Rafflecopter, & I apologise for not having pictures to show the numbers that were generated, etc but it's just as I'm on a borrowed laptop.
However, the numbers were 25, 36 & 4 - Nina, Laura & Donna.
From the comments, Laura of WhatLarryLoves has won Shake It! Flake It!, Nina of Nina's Bargain Beauty has won ¿Holo Qué Tal?! & Donna of Not Just On The Inside has won Miss MoneyPenny.
I'll give each of you a Tweet for addresses ASAP!
Congrats to the girls & for everyone else, I will hopefully be back blogging, with another give away soon!

July Wishlist

1. 2.
3. 4.
5. 6.

1. I love shirts - I've bought more recently than I have owned in my lifetime. I'm a stud & embellished collar fan too so this desperately needs to be mine.

2. As above, collar love right here. Ever thought a top would be amazing with a multi-coloured glittery Peter Pan collar? Just add this.

3. The blogging world and it's great aunt have been raving about YSL's new foundation so this isn't the first you'll have heard of it. I don't think this needs to be justified.

4. It's a bag.. That looks like a book! A book with the most gorgeous gold detail. I want it, & I want it to come in diary form too, so I can actually write in it. Please.

5. I only own one pair of converse - Neon pink ones. But, every girl needs some basic things that don't require army-like coordination to match an outfit together.

6. Nail polish is my weakness. Seeing as Ireland is pretty dark & dull right now, who could deny me one of the brightest shades in existence?

DO you have you eye on anything?

Barry M Cyan Blue

Hello girls :)

Well, time to follow up another long absence with a nail polish review! This time up is Barry M's beautiful Cyan Blue, which I picked up in Superdrug last week.

I love Barry M polishes, and this one is no different. They apply easily and are generally opaque in two coats, plus they don't break the bank at €3.65 and last for quite a while. I applied one coat of this a week ago, and got away with just one thick coat - It was completely opaque. I did throw on another coat three days later, because there was a bit of tip wear (Work is fairly hard on my poor nails!) and the photos were taken four days later - A little tip wear can be seen, but I think their staying power is pretty amazing, especially seeing as I didn't use a base or top coat. (I'm lazy, I know.)

The colour is amazingly bright - I'm pretty sure it's the closest to a neon blue you can get. It's definitely a summer shade! Most of you probably have a few Barry M polishes in your collection, so you know they have a consistently good quality, and I can confirm that Cyan Blue is one of the best shades I've tried. I've only taken it off to try out another new shade!

What's your favourite blue polish?

Catrice Million Styles Shake It! Flake It!

Hello :)

Well, as shown previously, I had a bit of a splurge on Catrice's Million Styles Topcoats at the weekend. Today was my first day to test them - namely C04 Shake It! Flake It! and ladies, it did not disappoint.

Bee-yoo-tiful chunks of glitter that simply shimmer from gold, to red, to green, it's like having strobe lights at your fingertips. I tried it on over a black polish, and just one coat transformed my nails from simple & sleek to something that I've been admiring ever since. My pictures don't do it justice - A Blackberry simply doesn't cut it when you want to be smug about something this pretty.

Black nails -C04 Shake It! Flake It!
The polish itself - Close up of the glitter

I can't help but feel that it's not the most summery of looks, & therefore, I'm thinking of layering another of the topcoats over a brighter (i.e. in your face) polish because this level of amazing needs to be seen. Catrice Million Style Topcoats are just €3.29, if you can find them. They're becoming notorious to track down, but if you're near a Sam McCauleys, you may be in luck.

Have you gotten your hands on any, or are you looking for them?

Weekend Haul.

Hello ladies,

I haven't posted all week because I've been working flat out - I'm not used to long, long days so even though I was home about 6PM, I couldn't find the energy to type up a new post. But we finished our stock take miraculously early today, so I managed to get tomorrow off, AND have a wander to the shops. Where I blew my hard-earned cash.

What did I pick up?

Head in the Clouds, Floating on a Breeze, Heart on your Sleeve

Superdrug Dy Shampoo - Buy 1, get 2 free. Don't worry, I do actually wash my hair & don't resort to a daily dousing of dry shampoo. But for €2.35 for three, I couldn't say no. I'll see how they compare with my usual Batiste!

c07 ¿Holo Qué Tal?!, C02 Million Dollar Baby, C04 Shake It! Flake It!

Catrice Million Styles Effect Top Coat - If the Beaut.ie Blather is anything to go by, these topcoats are highly sought after & more difficult to find than Wally. I picked them up in Sam McCauley's in Wexford for €3.29 each, & might just return for a few extras to give-away, so keep your eyes peeled!

NP 294 Cyan Blue, RNP 2 Blue, TMLP 207

Barry M Nail Paint & Lip Paint - After seeing Cyan Blue on so many blogs, I just wanted it, so I forked out €3.65 in Superdrug. And since the Retro Blue nail paint was free if you spent €7.50, I picked up the Touch of Magic Lip Paint  for €5.55 too.

Cotton Wool Pads, V05 Nourish Me Truly conditioner

Finally, the least exciting of my purchases - Boots had buy one, get one half-price on cotton pads, so I got packets for €3.94, for removing nail polish & eye make up. Since bleaching my hair, it needs a bit of a boost, so the conditioner was €1.25 in Superdrug, & promises a 'divine transformation'. We'll see.

So considering that this is my first shopping trip in about a month, and looking at the amount I got, I don't think I spent too much - They were necessary purchases! Sort of.

I might review a few of these items soon, so watch out!
Have you picked up anything recently?

Skittles Manicure

Hi there :)

After our quick burst of sunshine last week, I'm really hoping that Ireland doesn't get flooded at this stage. But even if the weather outside isn't quite so bright, the perfect solution has to be a Skittles manicure. It's easy  Just paint all your nails a different colour, then sit back and be blinded by the clashing colours. You can go for rainbow brights, like me, or try out more subtle pastels.

Aren't they pretty?

From left - right: Rimmel London 825 Sky High, Essence 39 Lime Up!, Claire's Accessories Yellow, Maybelline MNY My Varnish 341, Leighton Denny Plush Pink.
I painted my nails with a white polish first, to make the colours a little brighter.

You can use whatever colours & nail polishes you want to recreate this look, or something similar.

What do you think of the Skittles manicure? Too fussy, or something you'd wear?

Essence Blush Sorbet

Hi girls :)

After about 5 minutes to get ready this morning, hasty make-up application in the car (not while driving obviously), and forgetting most of my make up, when my blusher-less self spotted Essence's new Fruity range on stands, I couldn't resist picking up their new Blush Sorbet in 01 Smoothie Operator. Cheap, cheerful & the perfect rainy day pick-me-up.

The packaging & plastic tub.

First things first - The white lid & pink font is not the nicest. It's quite cheap looking, which I don't usually expect from Essence. The plastic tub doesn't bother me - It looks simple & neat. But hey, it's the product inside that counts. Essence describes it as 'an intense pink-red shade', but I think it's a tad more coral. And it has amazing an golden glimmer. But the first thing I noticed when opening the lid was the strong burst of fruity fragrance. It cheered me up quite a bit, but if you have sensitive skin or strong scents bother you, it's probably not for you. However, the smell doesn't transfer to your skin.

Swatched thickly & thinly.

And how does it look? Despite its brightness in the tub, it really gives a pretty sheer, natural flush that certainly looks healthy. It blends well and can be applied with a brush or fingers. It's the first time I've used a creamy/ liquid blush, and I do think I prefer my powder blushes, but it's certainly a light alternative on hot, sunny days (If we get any more - Fingers crossed!)

Overall, it's not the prettiest product on the outside, but the colour is gorgeous & can be built upeasily. So I don't think it'll become a favourite, but for €3.29, I won't complain.

Have you gotten any products from the new Fruity collection?

Hair Update - Ginger & Blonde Ombre

Hi everyone :)

Looking at my blog stats, my most popular post is the one on ombre hair. Understandable - it's a pretty popular trend. But since then, I have re-bleached my hair, and thought I would show you guys what it looks like now. You can see my hair mid-bleach in my last Life via Pictures post, I did bring the blonde a little higher up than last time.

And - I love it! Once again, I used Jerome B Blonde Hair Lightener Kit for medium to dark brown hair, available in Boots for around €6 I think? It works anyway, & is very straight forward!

Curled & Straight

And that's all folks!

Would you like a tutorial on how to get this look, or how to care for the bleached hair afterwards?
Let me know!

Strawberry Nails!

Hi girls!

Well, for the summer I've been picking strawberries part-time, & this weekend in Enniscorthy, the Strawberry Fest is taking place. And therefore - What would be more appropriate than strawberry-themed nails? They're cute, but unbelievably simple.

All you need are red, green and yellow polishes, and something to do dots with - I just used a hair clip, it was closest to hand. Use whichever base/top coat you want too! My polishes were Catrice 740 King of Greens, a Claire's Accessories yellow polish, Rimmel 325 Hot Gossip and I used a white polish too, to make the yellow stand out a bit more. Any polishes can be used though!

1. Paint your nails with the red polish. I used two coats to make sure it was opaque.
2. Paint a line of green over the top - It doesn't need to be neat, because you're going to do two or three little points underneath the line, to look like the leaves. Some people use tape for this, but strawberries aren't all perfect, so feel free to have it a bit messy!
3. Finally, the seeds on the outside. If using a white polish, just dot it onto the red part of your nails, using your dotting tool. Then, when dry, cover it with your yellow polish. Once again, don't worry about the neatness!
4. Sit back and admire your handiwork. Then gorge yourself on strawberries - They count towards your 5 a day, so guilt free!

And it's as simple as that. What are your favourite nail looks at the moment?

Art Deco High Precision Liquid Liner

Hello girls :)

When in Germany recently, I was AMAZED by their massive range of Art Deco make-up. I wanted to just take everything back in my suitcase, but I managed to restrain myself to just an eyeliner. A gorgeous, precise, shiny eyeliner. (Okay, it's a non-shiny black, but the casing is shiny, silver, and mirrored. My inner magpie rejoiced.) That was the High Precision Liquid Liner in 01 Black, and we have been inseparable ever since.

Mirrored packaging - I love it!

Art Deco describe the pen-style liner as having a 'premium high-tech brush' delivering 'a very precise and fine eye-line', that is 'intensive' and 'deep-black'. 'It can be applied easily and is long lasting.' Pretty big claims from the German brand - Do they deliver?

Swatched both thinly, then built up into a thicker line.

As you can see, the liner comes out through a flexible, thin nib and as a result, the line drawn is extremely thin and precise. It can certainly be built up thickly, without rubbing any of the previous liner off. Does it apply easily? Yes. It's pretty easy to draw a line quickly with feathery strokes or as a steady line. While it's quite difficult to make a mistake with this liner, if you do, it's not the easiest to correct. It's definitely a positive that it dries so quickly, as it won't smudge, but you need to fix any mistakes as soon as possible.

Would I recommend it? Yes. It's long lasting, precise, and quick but - It's not the blackest liner you can get. So if your a fan of thick, dark lines, there are probably better options out there. If you prefer a thin, less dramatic look? This is a good choice. It's €15.80, though I can't say whether it's available in Ireland. It's available on Beauty Bay, but for a ridiculous price - About twice the normal cost. For German girls, it's definitely in Douglas stores.

Do you have a Holy Grail liquid liner? Or do you prefer gel or pencil?

1. I clicked eagerly when this picture popped up on my Newsfeed. Models Own nail wraps? Those love heart designs will be mine.

2. This is such a gorgeous shop. Despite wanting everything, I narrowed it down to the one thing I always wanted as a child - A necklace with 'C' on it.

3. I needed a massive bag for college, to fit my laptop in. As much as I love the one I got, brown oes not go with everything. Neither does this cream and beige one, but hey, it looks good.

4. My favourite flower? Daisies. This is sweet & simple, and would fit in perfectly with my black & white room at home.

5. I barely wear dresses, unless going out. But I picked up a similar dress a while back & it's become my go-to piece for a sunny day. Instant cuteness!

6. I cannot justify this. As a ginger, my bronzer is used solely for a quick contour on a night out. But everyone raves about this little beauty & I desperately want.

Dazzling.

Hey everyone!

Just wanted to share a quick nail post with you guys before I hit the books for the day. It's cheap, cheerful, and oh-so-pretty.

Using one coat of NYC in Ink Stain, I then brought out Angelica in 69 Be Dazzled. And dazzled I was. Glittery with one coat, two coats will give you blingin' nails for minimum effort. I didn't bother with a topcoat because, let's be honest, sometimes that is just far too much effort.

One coat - two coats

And that is it from me! As I'm sure you all know, Angelica can be found in most Penney's (probably all Penneys, but just in case, I'll go with most.) For €2.75, you can't go wrong. I have a feeling, which will be tested, that it would look just as amazing over a nice turquoise, or maybe a bright red? But we'll wait and see.

Have a good week!

Hi girls :)

I know a lot of bloggers tend to do this kind of post at the weekend - A quick summary of the week. I've decided to do it mid-week, because at the start of college, Wednesdays always got me down. It had been a few days since I saw my family, and would be another few before I got to go home. While I've completely settled in now, I still like a quick pick-me-up and having something to focus on. Blog Awards :)

Hi girls :)

Despite the mountain of work I have to do, when the gorgeous Mollie tagged me with five award tags, I just had to do it. She has an absolutely fabulous blog, particularly if you're as much of a fiend for nail polish as I am.

The rules are the same as always - Answer the questions, etc, then tag other bloggers to do the same, if they wish.

Seven Random Facts About Me
  1. I ADORE freckles. I love when a foundation can do the impossible - give decent coverage on blemishes, but let freckles shine through.
  2. I am a tacky person. Leopard print, glitter, neon. I'd wear them all together if possible! (Well, maybe just on my nails. I'm not quite that confident.)
  3. I am an incredible sarcastic person. It may be the lowest form of wit, but it entertains me. Though I do feel absolutely awful when people just assume I'm being sarcastic & I'm trying to genuine. Sorry!
  4. 99% of the time, I would rather wear heavy eye make-up and zero base. I think it makes me look much more 'done' and takes less time, since just liquid eyeliner & mascara looks quite dark on me.
  5. My big passion (other than make up) is rowing. In summer, it takes up a lot of my time. Sadly, I think I'm allergic to any other form of exercise, but I'm trying to be healthier!
  6. In general, I prefer getting an actual present, rather than money. I know I can buy what I want from money, but I'd rather pick something out & have it bought for me, or I feel guilty!
  7. I think I'd quite happily live on Chicken Super Noodles for the rest of my life. I'm actual quite a decent cook - But they're so easy, & so nice that I can't ever resist!

1. How long have you been blogging?
Technically, my first post was in January 2010. I posted 5 times, then abandoned my poor blog, until now. I 'rejoined' the blogosphere in January this year - so about three months.

2. What are the 1-2 reasons you started blogging?
Mostly because I love writing. I regretted not writing for my university newspaper, particularly as I contributed to two websites about my experience with the Leaving Cert last year, and missed it. I followed a lot of beauty blogs, and decided that I should contribute my own thoughts!

3. What type of blogs do you like to follow/read?
Mainly other beauty blogs, though I do follow a few lifestyle & food bloggers as well. Mostly, they're girls about my own age, because  I'd tend to pick the same products as them, so it works out well for me!

4. What is one thing you would like to improve on as a blogger/on your blog?
Probably posting a little more regularly. Before I know it, days have passed, without any life from me!

Seven Random Thoughts About Myself
  1. I badly need to improve the condition of my nails.
  2. I am quite happy with my hair these days - I like my natural colour.
  3. My worst qualities are my stubbornness and hot temper.
  4. I tend to go for the same make-up regularly, and should change it up a bit.
  5. I haven't read an amazing book in ages, but want to start The Hunger Games series & see if they're worth it.
  6. I'm doing quite well in relation to not spending on make-up at the moment.
  7. I'm running out of moisturiser & want to try a new one.

1. Pink or red nails?
Pink! Much more versatile, though one of my favourites is Nails Inc Piccadilly Circus, which is quite a reddish-pink. But I love neons, so there are just a lot more pink shades to choose from.

2. Who is your role model?
My Nanny. (My mum's mum.) When my parents were working, she brought me up, and was such an inspiration, even after she passed away. She is the person whom will always mean the most to me.

3. Your favourite cereal?
Probably Cheerios. I go through phases with cereal, particularly things like Readybrek & Nesquik. Today I ended up with Crunchy Nut when I did my shopping, but I know Cheerios will always be there for me!

4. What are you wearing right now?
A sheer navy shirt with gold detail and denim jeggings. That's literally it, I'm not bothered with shoes when I'm curled up on my bed!

5. What is your next post going to be?
I honestly wish I knew. I want to do a review of the latest foundation I bought, but it will more than likely end up being a nail polish one - They tend to be a lot quicker & I never seem to have enough time!

6. What is your favourite song at the moment?
Probably Marianas Trench - Haven't Had Enough. A friend of a friend introduced me to their music & I loved it! Though I've also been listening to a lot of Taylor Swift recently.

7. What are your bedsheets like?
In college - My sheets are pink, my duvet is black, with multicoloured patterns (orange, pink, blue & green), and my pillows are black.
At home - My sheets & pillows are black, & my duvet is reversible, so either white with black floral designs, or black with white. I have a variety of cushions on both beds too!

8. Name your top three films.
Aghh impossible! I love Irish films, so one of my favourites would probably be Song For A Raggy Boy, even though it's so sad. Favourite girly one would be Pretty Woman, & there's no way I could leave out Harry Potter. I refuse to choose one out of the eight.

9. What shape sunglasses do you wear?
I only actually own one pair, because I tend to wear my glasses instead of contacts most days. But they're pretty big, and round - Next up, a pair of aviators!

10. What is your haircare routine?
At the moment, I focus a lot of conditioning on the tips, since I bleached them. Otherwise - Wash every second day, use a balancing shampoo once a week, and leave to dry naturally more often than not. I'm too lazy to pay much attention to it!

11. Who is your favourite band/singer?
I'm going to pick two separate answers.  Taylor Swift is probably the singer I listen to most of the time right now and (please don't judge me) but I love One Direction. Their songs are the perfect pick me up!

My 11 Questions

Havin' a ball.

Hi guys!

I was about to apologise for a lack of posts, then I realised - It's pretty much the norm for me. Like a lot of other bloggers, I'm in the midst of trying miserably to study for end of year exams. (Which means i'm not blogging myself, but avoiding the books by reading lots of other posts to be honest.)

Also, I seem to be having a slight problem, in that my new posts don't show up on my followers' Dashboards. If anyone has any idea how to fix this - It would be very much appreciated!

As a little break from study though, I was at one of my friend's college ball last Thursday. (Just in case you're wondering Mum, yes I DO do things other than go to balls in college. Honest.) It was an amazing night, and thankfully very cheap for me - He paid for my ticket, I borrowed a dress, and did my own hair, make-up, etc. While I don't have many photos of the night, as my camera is playing up, here are a few quickies:

Probably the best photo I have of my dress.
It was backless, which caused me a lot of hassle in trying to find the correct bra,
but I finally succeeded!
With me is my best friend, Danielle.

A photo of my make up.
(Before I did my hair, etc.)

My eye make up.
A very basic golden/brown smoky eye.
(Before I applied false lashes)

Overall, it was a fabulous night. Good luck to any girls studying/ doing exams at the moment!

April Wish-list!

Hi everyone :)

Just my current wishlist – I'll be dropping hints for my birthday before long haha! (Just for reference - It's in a month and I'm perfectly willing to provide my address for any presents.)

5. 6.

  1. Absolutely. In. Love. With these shoes. They're seriously high,I'd probably cut myself with the studs, they wouldn't match anything in my wardrobe... BUT I WANT THEM.Who needs to buy food for the next few months? I'd rather splurge on these, thank you very much.

  2. Now this playsuit from River Island is definitely something I'd get wear out of – It's like a big bundle of perfectness. I have a lovely black and white playsuit that I wear to death. But a black & white playsuit with a Peter Pan collar? And a touch of leopard print? Why don't I own you already?

  3. How amazing is this purse? The colour is gorgeous! Plus it's on sale. I desperately need a new purse, as mine doesn't shut tightly so I keep losing coins (Funnily enough, this only happens after a few tequilas) but I'm genuinely holding out for my birthday. Pretty please friends?

  4. Okay, I know I don't need a new nail polish. But, shock horror – I do not own any Model's Own polishes. I have tried them, I have fallen in love, I have been extremely poor. But Indian Ocean is such a shimmery, soothing colour.. I don't own anything like it and Fleur's fab nails sold it to me!

  5. I'm not sure how to actually explain this one. I am not a very tailored, shirt-wearing person. But my housemate loves Jack Wills. And so I had a glance at their website. And so I decided that her love was totally justified and I could become a tailored, shirt-wearing person. Just for this shirt.

  6. My lust for YSL's Glossy Stains is easily understandable – Have you seen how gorgeous they look over on Beaut.ie & Fluff and Fripperies? GO LOOK. After a quick detour from lectures to Brown Thomas, I was hooked. No 15, 17, or any at all pretty please.

So that's what I'm lusting after at the moment – Have you guys spotted anything you desperately want? Leave a comment & let me know!
